The Guinness World Record for most diamonds set in one ring was set (literally) in India last year, with the successful design, diamond-selection and masterful creation of this breathtaking Lotus Temple ring by Mumbai’s Lakshikaa Jewels.
Valued at $4.9 million, IGI was chosen to grade the 7777 E-F color, VVS-VS clarity diamonds and evaluate the entire the piece. A sequence of round brilliants cleverly studded along the two-tone 18K white and rose-gold shank, brings the total weight of diamonds used in this luxurious record-holder to 21.39-carats.

This video follows the careful process of counting, grading and documenting each diamond in the ring’s seven sections by IGI Graduate Gemologists. There is a gorgeous montage showing each component section and its total number of diamonds. Once assembled, the ring undergoes an additional layer of verification and the video concludes with the ring’s IGI Jewelry Report and Guinness World Record certificate.
Human ingenuity and spirituality
The Lotus Temple in Delhi, India, was the inspiration for the piece, which took 18 months to assemble. Lakshikaa Jewels’ founder, Naveen ‘Prince’ Bhandari of India explained why the temple was chosen as the basis for the design.
I couldn’t think of a more appropriate way to celebrate human ingenuity and spirituality than this temple.
India has a long and rich history of jewelry-making. Our Maharajas and Maharanis would hire the best artists of their time to create jewelry worthy of their stature. Since then, Indians have inherited a fondness for jewelry and an eye for craftsmanship, which is unparalleled in the world.
The lotus occupies a sacred place in a number of religions which, Bhandari added, contributed to the sense of unity behind the design. The team was headed by an experienced jewelry designer with the assistance of twelve bench artisans.
When asked if there would be a successor to the record-setting ring, the reply was no.
It is going to remain a one of a kind piece. However, we have been looking at some of the stunning architecture in Dubai and that might be inspiration for us on a new project. We might create a piece that is inspired by the Burj Khalifa.
In addition to promoting ingenuity and spirituality, Bhandari hopes his company’s achievement of this world record will serve as a creative catalyst.
We hope our feat inspires other jewellery designers to create newer records and establish greater achievements.

The Lotus Temple reminds me of the Baha’i House of Worship, beautifully inspired and erected in 1986.
