IGI School of Gemology Launches Gem-A Courses at Mumbai Flagship Centre

Mumbai, 08 September 2025: The International Gemological Institute (IGI) proudly announces that the IGI School of Gemology is now an Accredited Teaching Centre (ATC) for the Gemmological Association of Great Britain (Gem-A). The prestigious Gem-A Foundation Course will officially launch at IGI School of Gemology’s flagship Mumbai centre in November 2025, marking a significant milestone in gemological education in India.

This collaboration allows students in India to begin their journey toward the globally respected Fellowship of Gemmological Association (FGA) designation—considered one of the most revered and coveted recognitions in the field of gemology.

“We are thrilled to partner with Gem-A and introduce their Foundation & Diploma curriculums to our Mumbai School. For 50 years, IGI has endeavoured to bring world-class learning to our students. With this new offering, both our existing and new students can access internationally benchmarked gemological education,” said Tehmasp Printer, Global CEO of IGI. “Our Gem-A qualified instructors are here to guide students through this legacy program, preparing them for advanced study or successful careers in the gem and jewelry industry.”

Founded in 1908, Gem-A is the world’s oldest gemological institute, renowned for setting global standards in gemological training and qualifications. Its Foundation Certificate represents the first crucial step towards the FGA designation, equipping students with essential gemological knowledge and practical skills.

The Gem-A Foundation in Gemmology Course at IGI Mumbai will run over eight weeks, from November to December 2025, culminating in a globally synchronized examination in January 2026. The Gem-A Diploma in Gemmology course is planned to run for 12 weeks from March to May 2026. Students who complete these curricula are qualified to apply for Fellowship in Gem-A, earning the prestigious FGA designation, after passing the two courses.

With this addition to the existing IGI School of Gemology courses, IGI reinforces its position as a global leader in gemological education. Alongside its 36 state-of-the-art grading laboratories, IGI now operates 21 School of Gemology around the world, graduating thousands of students annually.
